Lismore/Ballina/Port Macquarie/Coffs Harbour?

I'm wanting to move somewhere along the coast of NSW but cant decide where.

If anyone can tell me about any of these places, what its like to live there, employment opportunities, renting/buying a place I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you.

  1. Lismore is inland.  It can be hot and humid, with not much going for it.

Ballina is on the coast a bit south of Byron Bay.  It is doing very well economically, and will have lots of employment opportunities.  Not particularly touristy.

Port Macquarie is lovely, but a lot of retirees live there.  It is sometimes called God's Waiting Room.

Coffs is also very nice, but attracts quite a few tourists.

  2. The coast is expensive but house and land prices fall off as you move further inland. Lismore is cheaper than Ballina, Casino is cheaper than Lismore. You can still buy small farms (50-100acres) with houses for $250,000 west of Casino - and the country is beautiful there. I should know, I live there.  Byron Bay is on a par with Sydney for house prices. It is a lovely place to visit but you need to be rich to live there these days.

There is employment through the region but depending on where you live, you will need to be prepared to travel. There is more employment in larger towns like Lismore, Ballina and Grafton than there is in the smaller towns.

The countryside is beautiful with many national parks. Northern NSW towns do not have high-rise so they don't look like those abominations across the border

The local paper in Lismore is the Northern Star http://www.northernstar.com.au/ You might want to check hose prices and job availability there.

You won't regret moving to northern NSW, it is a great place to live. If you want to visit the Gold Coast, it is just up the road but I can't imagine anything worse than living there.

  3. Taree& Fosters are nice towns! So is Balina & Bayron B. I suppose is all about what you looking for/in a place, beside being "nice" and about where you come from? And why do you stop in NSW? Just few more km north, you arrive at Twin Heads, QLD. The life's much cheaper and nice in Quensland, in general, plus you are on Gold Coast!

  4. The coast of NSW .. Its all nice. Port Macuarie has a lot of beautiful places. However in the holiday seasons it get packed out by people.

The coast is a beautiful part of the world, real estate is a little price yyyy but that the way Australia NSW has gorn now.
