Question:

Moving to New York City?

Not much of a question but I just recently attempted suicide and survived. I'm only 18 and I realize I made a mistake, and as an attempt to try to change things, I've decided to follow my dream of moving to new york city. The thing is I've never been there and I'm at a loss for how to go about this... where to find a place, and how to find a job, etc. If anyone from new york reads this, I would really appreciate some advice or tips..maybe you know someone who needs a room mate? If you're not from new york i definetly wouldn't mind making an e-friend or just getting some encouragement. thanks.

  1. First of all, living on Long Island IS cheaper than NYC, but not nearly as cheap as other parts of the country. Keep in mind your living expenses. If you have people who are willing to take you in, you should try and find a job first, then a roommate/apartment.

Try Craigslist.com, and clicking the NYC link. They've got all kinds of stuff on there, people looking for roommates, job opporunities and housing listings.

Please PLEASE be careful, though. Meeting a roommate online can be shady business.

However, I think you should consider staying with your friends and looking in the Astoria area of Queen sor even in Brooklyn, like right on the Bklyn side of the bridge. You'd still be able to walk or take a subway into manhattan but the price of EVERYTHING would go way down.

    Hope this helps!

  2. Long island cheaper? i never seen it.

Anyway, do you have the funding needing to live here, and where are you moving from. This town can cause a lot of mental stress especially if you come home a deserted area. If your rich live in Manhattan, Long Island City (in queens), Brooklyn Heights, or Phelm Parkway in the Bronx.

If you middle to low class you should look into the Bronx, Brooklyn Staten Island, and Queens.

We all need roommates up here.
