I am moving to Plano Texas.

Which electricity company should I pick? I hate to make a two years contract and then find out there was lots of hidden charges.

Available companies in my area are:

Reliant Energy, TXU, Green Mountain Energy, Direct Energy, First Choice power, Texas Power, Amigo Energy, Simple Power.

Please advise. I’ll pick the best answer later.

  1. How about the company I market that is home grown out of Dallas 3 years ago.

It's called Stream Energy. In the 3 years it's already the largest competitive retail electric provider. How is that possible since deregulation happened in 2002? It's called great customer service, better rates in the area, and people like me that actually care for their "personal customers".

Look at www.powertochoose.org. That is the official state site. Lists all of the companies in your area. My company is one of the few that offers 1yr, 2yr standard generation and 1 yr GREEN. Many companies don't even mess with 100% renewable GREEN generation and that is a shame.

I have a sample bill you can look at to see the format. There are NO hidden costs. There aren't any weird flat customer charges for being a customer.

There is a reason we are the largest CREP and we are actually larger than the Dallas Cowboys.

Contact me through my profile and I can help you with any questions you have. Remember to read the facts label. There are some tricky companies out there charging like $5-$10 if you use too little or just because your a customer.

  2. There is a separate company that delivers the electricity (owns the wires).  It is called Oncor in my area.  The companies you are naming all sell electricity and it is very hard to figure out who or what is best.  I hate it.

I went with Reliant.  They are a very large company and slightly cheaper than TXU.  Several of the others are even cheaper but four companies have actually shut down this year and their customers were switched to other companies without any input from the customer.

  3. Go with TXU, they are one of our landlords for our telecommunications towers in my dealings with them they've been great.

It's tough to choose since Texas electricity has been deregulated, even if you go with TXU, another company provides the lines and the power etc.  I like just having one power company, granted you're stuck paying their rates but it takes the guess work out of who to call when there's a problem.

    Good luck
