  1. Before you move any where you need to ask yourself a couple of questions.

Have the people, who are saying don't go, ever lived in the area you want to move to?

If they have, do they enjoy the same sort of lifestyle as you and your partner?

Have you got anything to lose by moving?

Can you get the sort of employment you want without moving?

Toowoomba is a city of about 90,000 people.

As far as I know it has nearly all the benefits of the big city with less hassles. Brisbane CBD is only 2 hours away and the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast approx 3hours away.

You don't see much bad news coming out of Toowoomba, it might just be worth taking a chance.

Good luck with what ever you choose to do.

  2. I visited Toowoomba quite a bit last year, my summary. Rent is cheap compared to big cities, attractive town but suffering from drought and water shortage, lots of young people, cold winters (compared to other parts of Qld). Nice restaurants and hotels, sporting facilities.

  3. Toowoomba is also known as the Garden City.  It hosts the carnival of flowers in September, and is a very pretty place.

It is nestled high on the range, and boasts spectacular views from the Picnic Point lookout.

It has a lot of tree lined streets, and is cold in winter - there was some sleet there a few weeks ago, but that isn't very common.

The population has quite a few older residents - I guess that's why the gardens are so great, but it also has a bit of a reputation for being a bit of a hoon spot.

It's on the edge of the Darling Downs, which is a historically good farming and produce growing area.

I personally have always liked Toowoomba, but I guess it depends on what you expect from a city.

If you are wanting a mid sized, friendly place to live at a lower cost that a larger city, then it will probably suit you.  But if you want night life and city buzz, then you might find it a bit boring.

It's about two or more hours drive to Brisbane.
