Question:

Moving to Toronto, Canada?

I'm currently in Northwest Indiana and I LOVE LOVE Canada and I would really love to move to downtown Toronto. The only problem is, I don't have any money saved up. How much money should I save up in order to get a decent place to live? Also, is it possible to apply for different jobs online and have some sort of "over the phone interview" so when I get there I already have a job in place? Advice is appreciated.

  1. A one-bedroom apartment relatively near downtown would be around $900/month.

There are lots of jobs in Toronto.  It might not be so easy to line one up beforehand unless you've got some particular skill that is needed.  Also, being American, you're going to need a work visa.  That means not only do you need a company to hire you, but they need to sponsor your visa as well which costs them money and time.

You could always work under the counter though.

  2. The first thing you need to do is apply for  a work permit (temporary work)or permanent residence.Canada is a different country you have to go through the immigration process. This can take years.

  3. Though toronto is a greeat city it is pretty expensive here! so i think you should save up before coming down!

yes jobs are easy to find here and im pretty sure you can apply online!

  4. You can def apply online to roles, and be interviewed over the phone, for sure!  Check out Workopolis.ca and look under the fast track section for the types of jobs you are interested in.

As for finding a place and how much you need to save, I would say that monthly rent would cost you at least $1000 or more per month, so check out www.kijiji.com and look under Toronto, you might find people that are looking for roommates, that will save you osme money in rent and you will make an immediate friend too!

All the best, you will love Toronto, it is a great place to live!!

  5. you must be crazy to move from the land of opportunities, America, to here in Canada. Here it's 7 months winter. The wather is crazy and really cold.
