Question:

Moving to UK?

I currently live in Australia, and I am willing to move to UK in the future for my career reasons.

What cities/places are ideal for one to raise a family in UK? I

know it's definitely not london, and also nottingham, glasgow, manchester, leeds, edinburgh are NOT on my list due to high costs and crime.

These are the places I am interested in:

Swindon, Whiltshire

Cardiff

York, Yorkshire

I am NOT interested in clubs/bars at all, but need good place with shopping, ideal convenience in facilities, good schools, affordable cost of living, low crime, etc.

-> which of the three cities meet the above criteria?(the best?)

And are there any more places you could recommend? Note that I don't want to live where it's too rural.

  1. Tunbridge Wells or Tonbridge or Sevenoaks (Kent - 40 min commute to central London by train) are all great for families with lots of good schools, parks, close to the coast. Perfect for adults & kids. Now could be a bit pricy as this area is very popular due to location and how nice it is.

  2. chelmsford in essex

  3. depend on where you job takes you but the south west is great close to beaches for kids not to pricey for housing and the scenery around here is picturesque.

  4. Before you decide that you are coming here to live and work you would do well to check out your eligibility to do so because our immigration rules have changed, and we now operate a points system, just as Australia does.  Citizens of the EEA (European Economic Area) take precedence over any jobs going, and unless you have a skill which is in high demand here, or are eligible to come on an ancestry visa, you may find it difficult to obtain a work permit.
