I am moving there from Australia.

I was wondering if it really is as good as some say?

And

I'm freaking out about the weather, am I totally gonna freeze? haha

Anything else you wanna tell me about it or Canada in general would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

  1. To one of the other posters, it is so true that the Australians have taken over our ski hills lol!

    But to answer your question:

    1. That depends on what you have heard...don't come here with too high expectations, but it is a really beautifull city, and there are drug and homeless problems downtown, but it mainly stays on the east side.

    2. Vancouver has a very temperate climate. Rarely goes below 0 in the winter months and in the summer, the temp rests at around 25, but it can go up to 30. Whooppee I know. I usually go to the Okanagan in the summer anyway (it gets waay hotter in the summer, but then WAY colder in the winter)

But since it doesnt get very cold in the winter, instead of snow, we are stuck with RAIN. alot of rain. Pretty much every month is rainy except fro the summer ones.

  2. Vancouver is beautiful.  It does rain quite a bit.  Vancouver (and the rest of the lower mainland) boasts the warmest climates in all of Canada year round so you won't "freeze."  I'm from Toronto, Ontario but have been doing a bit of research on Vancouver myself because I will be moving there too.  i visited last month and fell in love with the city, and the White Rock area just 40 minutes away.  There are mountains to the north and beaches to the south and tons of parks (like the rest of Canada, we are very "park-y") which pretty much covers all outdoor activities.  A friend of mine told me that in order to survive the grey sky winters and excessive rains during winter (very little snow BTW) everyone just goes to Hawaii or some place sunny for vacation in the winter.  Sounds like a great compromise to me!  here a wiki with decent general info:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vancouver,_...

  3. You are the first Aussie that I have seen to be concerned about the temperature.

Your countrymen and women have literally taken over all our ski hills.

Vancouver itself is not cold at all.

You are going to love it.  I have yet to see an Australian who does not.

  4. Welcome to Vancouver!

First, I am a Vancouverite, and this is truly a wonderful place to live and to play.  The natural beauty of the city is unparallel.  We have tall mountains, clean ocean, and more trees than people.

Vancouver is also a rich city, with many fancy homes and fancy cars, which means the cost of living here is high.  In fact, one of highest in Canada.

Vancouver is also very cosmopolitan, very worldly.  There are sizable communities of East Asians and South Asians, as well as immigrants from all over the world.  The variety and quality of Vancouver's restaurants are just wonderful.

Vancouver, like any port city, has a drug problem, a homeless problem, a gang problem and other social ills, no worse than most.

Overall, it is still one of the best cities to live in the world, as Vancouver has consistently ranked the top 5 in the annual UN "best city to live" survey.

  5. If you're a snowboarder or skier...you will love it. Vancouver has so much to offer...yes lots of rain too but sunshine as well. Some of the greatest restaurants in the world are there. No you won't freeze ; it;s warmer than any other place in Canada. You will love Vancouver ; so much to do and see. Enjoy it...it grows on you.
