Hello, I am moving from California to Indiana next week. Do I need to notify the California State Tax Dept. about this? I know that I will need to file both California and Indiana when tax season comes...but I am not fully sure. Any help would be great, thanks!

  1. No, you'll note on your CA tax return next year that you were a partial year resident.

  2. Your new address on next years return will be notification enough.

  3. In early 2009, you will have to file a part-year resident tax in CA, plus a part-year resident tax in IN.

Most tax software will be able to handle that.

You do not need to inform the government unless you are a non-citizen leaving the country for good.

  4. no
