  1. Try this link to qld gov bus and rail

    http://www.transinfo.qld.gov.au/

  2. What time do they stop running at night?

The public transport system, particularly buses, has picked up quite a lot in recent months. You need to give us more information for us to answer this question properly - where do you want to go to/from?

I would say most popular bus routes run until around 9.00 - 10.00pm, but there are a few routes that run on the NIGHTLINK service, which run most of (if not all of) the night.

    Translink's main NIGHTLINK webpage: http://www.translink.qld.gov.au/qt/Trans...

Here is a map of bus routes on the NIGHTLINK service: http://www.translink.qld.gov.au/qt/trans...

Here is a map of the train routes on the NIGHTLINK service: http://www.translink.qld.gov.au/qt/trans...

I would suggest that you find out the most accessible areas in Brisbane so that you don't end up moving into an area where there are hardly any public transport options.

Then you can use Translink's journey planner to find out your transport options: http://jp.translink.com.au/

By the way, transport fares are going up in August: http://transinfo.com.au/qt/translin.nsf/...

Generally, trains start at around 5.30am and run half-hourly. Most suburban bus routes run half-hourly with a few "BUZ" routes running every 15 or 10 minutes.

If you live close to the city (within 7kms) and near a main arterial road (like Wynnum Road, Ipswich Road, Waterworks Road, Kelvin Grove Road, Lutwyche Road, Mains Road) or near a highway - you will be fine.

Unless you say where you plan to go, I can't help you any more than that.

And yes, as I don't have a car - I find it very easy to get around Brisbane on public transport. It is just a matter of familiarising yourself with maps and timetables.

  3. Such an open ended question is very hard to answer.

Brisbanes public transport system is quite lacking.  The first answer, with the transinfo details will help a lot.  For adequate transport, you really need to live close into the city.  In most areas where they are set up, buses and trains are fairly regular.  They get you ro the major centres- shopping centres, brisbane city, but it really is limited.

You are best doing a fair bit of research before heading this way to ensure you can get where you need to go
