  1. So being deeply in love will be beneficial. that will over ride any negative areas . Yes it gets cold Summer doesn't last long . Like most places looking for a job has no easy answer. you may need to look hard and long or you may get one straight away . good luck

  2. Christchurch has extreme in weather with reasonably hot summers ( this is NZ hot not aussie hot eg its not uncommon to get temps of mid-30's) and it has quite cool winters eg snow ( usually one dump a year in the city) and quite a few frosts so its CRISPY cold, having said that it also gets the southerly storms that come from the south. BUT if you dress warm, don;t mind a large powerbill with heaters running all the time at home etc...its not THAT bad!!!

ITs the biggest city in the south island so it has lots of offer ( its around 400,000 people so thats a decent size)...they get all the better shops than other places. Social life is quite good with plenty of pubs, bars and nightlclubs...there is  a decent sized student base that go to the uni ( canterbury) so they can liven things up!

  3. its about 350,000 people which is about the same size as wellington. winter can be cold and it usually snows at sea level 2 or 3 times a winter. summer is hot and its a dry heat. there is no humity and the sun can be very harsh. its not as hot as aussie but it often gets into the 30's. the southern alps are within an hours drive and canterbury has about 10 or 11 skifields. beachs are nice but the easterly wind can make them cold on some days and the ocean is always cold. nightlife in town is busy on fridays and saturdays but dead the rest of the week. wellington is only a 30 min flight and queenstown and wanaka a 5 hour drive and marlbrough a 4 hour drive. a great thing about chch is you can get in a car and be outside the city in ten minutes. vineyards 40mins north as well. right in the middle of chch in town is hagley park which is a huge park like the same idea as central park in new york. chch people love rugby and the crusaders are huge. there used to be a problem with smog in winter as chch sits below sea level. since banning wood fires in homes this problem has stopped.

  4. I went to university in Christchurch and worked in Aussie during the long vacations.  Aussie is bloody hot, even in winter.  Christchurch is hot in summer and mild in winter.
