  1. 50,000 is not a lot of money for forever. You could invest it and make millions..... or loose it all.

I bought a house in Peru for 8,000. I dumped another 100,000 into it to make it really nice.

It really depends on how and where you want to live. Life in a larger city is a little more expensive. You could buy an apartment in Bogota or surrounding area. The link below has prices.

    good luck

  2. which place do you like more? I think that money would not make living at a certain place more enjoyable than another place...A good suggestion is to look in which country the American dollar is worth more, right now, in Colombia, the dollar value is pretty low, not what it used to be before. I'm so over the US too, I wish I can move to Colombia..=(

  3. Well am from venezuela right now chavez once in a while start talking and all that and if u go to the getto u are in trouble but there is a place call isla margarita u can do a research is locate it in venezuela and it look like hawaii and puerto rico at the same time but colonbia is too bad right now the *guerilla* can kill u and  all that stuff just look at the news and compare wich country have the most drama colonbia with ecuador and venezuela or venezuela wich have plobrems only with bush

  4. I would say forget Venezuela for now. It's a great place but with too many political problems.

  5. I dont know how old you are and if you are planning to retire but that is absolutely not enough many to live in either country. You could probably live just fine for maybe 5 years, but you would have to limit your purchases.

Regarding YURUBY's post. I dont know what she is talking about because Caracas has a higher crime rate than Bogota. Washington, DC and Baltimore also have a higher crime rate than Bogota.  In the last 6 or so years since President Uribe took office the crime rate has plummeted in urban areas all over the country, except for rural areas which are still considered unsafe. On the other hand Venezuela's crime rate does not seem to be getting any better.

  6. While it is true that you can live inexpensively in either country, fifty-thousand dollars is not really much money....even if all you spent was US$125 a week it would only last about seven and a half years under perfect conditions. If you are eligible to draw social security in the next five years or less then maybe you could make it.The best thing would be to start a business with a portion of the $50K that could hopefully, after expenses, pay you enough to live wherever you choose.

I have been traveling, living and working in Mexico,Central and South America (and the US) for the last 15 years so I have no doubts that it can be done. In fact, even now, people I meet will tell me all the reasons why it can't be done, while I continue to do it. I may not know all the tricks, but I know enough of them to keep living, working and traveling wherever I choose.

    Buena Suerte!

  7. you can live of that and I'm guessing your also going to work but unfortunately Venezuela is not in a good state since its under a dictatorship so i would go to Colombia

  8. go to Bogota

  9. I share the same feelings with you.. I am from Venezuela and I can not wait any longer to go back..

I have very good friends from Colombia and they all say that Colombia is not a safe place to live especially if you are not use to live in a constant unsafe environment..

Venezuela has some political issues .. YES THAT IS TRUE.. but is nothing compared to the safety issues that Colombia has.

Chavez has  a big mouth but is a good president.. It is a big change for what we were used to have as a government but LIFE in Venezuela is GREAT no matter what.

We have great weather, the best beaches, in my opinion is a paradise.. you can find everything you want under the same sky all year round... and you can chose to live in a big city or small town .. everything is close and you can have it all at the same time.
