Another thing i will be living in a small town atengo, jalisco. I need to know about how it is. Like i know there is not heat or air con. And i will have to cook clean and wash clothes by hand. I know it will be hard but im willing to try my best.

I love my son and his father and promised i would go im just nervouse on how to get there safe and without problems and what all can i take with me. like can i take my sons crib.

Thanks again

  1. I didn't answer your first question (yet).

Okay, I live in Jalisco (I'm here rigth now), but far away from Atengo. I can see you are very stressed. Everybody answer already very good: if you have money enogh, there is absolutly no problem here. You can have here the same things than in USA, if you have the money. Private schools and doctors are cheaper (really cheaper) than in USA. Atengo is in very nice area, the weather is nice, the summer is cooler than in southern USA (because of the altitude) and winter is warmer than anywhere in USA (because of the latitud). If you add some extra info I could imagine what kind of life you are going to have here.

Here I know three american women married to mexicans that are living in Mexico this time: one is living in Aguascalientes city, she has a better life here than in USA; another lives in a farm in Jalisco, she likes her life away to the cities, and another is going back to USA without the husband.

    So, good luck.

  2. In Mexico there is an agency called Centro de Salud (the central health center) in every town.  Every service they offer is free to anyone that walks in the door.  That includes meds that they have.  They may refer you outside for blood tests ($7), X rays ($18) or to a pharmacy (cheap) for some things.

Cooking is cooking, cleaning is just labor, washing clothes is a problem if you don't have a washer.  I would really consider getting a full cycle washer for $400+/- .... and not only would your life be easier - but the family would love you.   Everybody hangs clothes out to dry

I believe Atengo is just east of Lake Chapala and at 5000 feet should be very comfortable in the winter - maybe hot for a few summer months.

Depends on how the family is living for the conditions you will experience.  It could range from a brick hut to middle class (Mexican middle class).

It would be very helpfull if you had a few thousand in the bank that you could access by ATM

  3. if you are broke here in the U.S. you will be broke in Mexico too.

if you have money, you can put your son in a private school and get all the shots you want with no problem.

if you have money, you can buy as many heaters and air conditioners you want.

if you have money, you can eat out, hire a maid, and buy a washer and life will be nice.

you can take anything you want with you (except regulated things like guns, ammo, drugs, etc). at worst you may have to pay an import fee which is nominal.

there is nothing to worry about beyond what you worry about here in the U.S.

Here in the U.S. there is problems with crime, gangs, vandalism, corruption, too. In Mexico its just out in the open a lot more.

You should be ok as long as you do everything legally.

I just bought a house in Mexico and want to live there when I retire. I cant now because I owe too much here and dont want to default or file bankruptcy.

I believe Mexico is a much nicer place to live than in big cities in the US. so you are actually doing something that I really want to do in the not too distant future.

Mexico can be just as, if not more, comfortable than the U.S. but it all depends on if you have money....just like here.  Life sucks anywhere if you are broke.

  4. well , the private medical doctor is much cheaper than it is in America,  and if you want to wash your clothes you may ask you the closest "lavanderia" it is pronounced [lab-band-there-EE-oh]

but IN THE WORST case scenario if there is no Laundry place in town then you should go to the nearest biggest town or city , hopefully you will find a doctor, a shopping center and A  laundry place. always ask for the bigger city of town.

    where is the biggest city?

the temperature is not so high during the summer, you may get used to that kind of weather if you have lived in queensland, it's no so hot, and the humidity is lower than it is on the coast.
