Moving to new apt. Decorating suggestions/tips?

I am moving into a mother in law apartment, it has a bedroom, kitchen, living room and bathroom. Does anyone have any decorating suggestions or tips? I would like the place to look modern and alive :) I love colors, and cool unusual things, artifacts etc. And I love photos!

I just want it to look niceee. Like when people walk in I want them to get the impression that I spent time making my place homey and comfy and chill.

Any tips would be appreciated!

Making somewhere modern while still homey and comfy and chilled is a task to spend some time getting right!

Black and white immediately give a modern feel, but seeing as you like colour why not choose something mad like white and lime or black and orange.  Or to go really OTT you could have lime and pink or turquoise and purple. Be sure to stick to a complementary theme though and don't introduce to many colours as you run the risk of it looking tacky.

I would invest in loads of frames for your photos. Why not dedicate a whole wall to cover in photos. It's a great feature for both you and guests.
