I am moving in five months. I cannot find an apartment. Every website I look at costs money to just be provided with only links to other wesites that make me pay again!! Money is not a huge issue but to pay a website when they dont even tell you how many are available in Nijmegen before I pay is infuriating. I dont want to pay more than 900.00 a month for rent if possible, and I am moving there for long term. Any help would hugely be appreciated. thanks..Rachel

  1. Hi Rachel

You don't mention if you want to buy or rent (but I assume rent), and also maybe you are coming over to study as a student (?)  If this is the case then I would say, make your starting point the University as they are bound to have either a department or at least an info pack of addresses, websites etc that have been vetted already

You may well struggle to find an apartment for 1 year or less (as you don't mention if this is a permanent move or not) without employing the services of an agency (expensive, but at least you can be sure that it will be in a decent area if you request it, otherwise you could end up anywhere if you do not know the place).  However, being honest I am not familair with the housing situation specifically for Nijmegen.  Hopefully someone who is local there has some more ideas

It is expensive whatever you want (relative to the size), but of course depends if you want an apartment to yourself or if you are prepared to share a house (with a bedroom for yourself and shared kitchen/bathroom).

Also take care for "cheap" prices - there is bound to be a catch e.g. dodgey area

Here are some links for your to search for an accomodation yourself

    http://www.directwonen.nl/zoeken/woonrui... (Dutch) or http://www.directliving.nl/ (English)

http://www.funda.nl/WoningAanbod/Huur/De... (Dutch, fill in Nijmegen in "Locatie" and press "Zoeken" to find available rental places)

Huur is "rent" Then on the right hand side click the options:

    - "Gemeubileerd" which means furnished

    - "Appartement"- meaning apartment (of course!)

    - "Aantal kamers" means how many rooms which you can choose if you want

    - "Woonoppervlakte"- means living space in square meters

    http://www.kamernet.nl/ (Dutch)

http://www.expatica.com/nl/listings/deta... - Expat site in English

Private ads (all free to place and react to)

    http://www.viavia.nl/

    http://www.marktplaats.nl/

    http://www.speurders.nl/

You can also check out agencies. Here is the link to the English version of the yellow pages where you can search http://yellowpages.goudengids.nl/display...
