So as the title says i'll be moving from the UK to the US/Canada next year for the foreseeable future, made a shortlist of cities of which vancouver is one! Looking for any advice or opinions of the city from people who live there currently, thanks!

Also important are:

colleges - ideally id like to be able to do my phd after a couple of years so good universities nearby are important

climate - spent a year in melbourne, sick of living in the uk where frankly the weather is just depressing, so nothing too cool

culture - ideally i'd like a city with a fairly laid back culture, with plenty of young people (im 22), bars/restraunts/clubs/cafes

big city - metrosizes 2million plus preferable

cost of living - not such an issue as its fairly expensive over this side of the pond but would be good to know any places that are excessively expensive

  1. From what you say it sounds like Vancouver fits your needs. Two major universities in greater Vancouver.  University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University.  Climate is temperate.  Warm with lots of sun in the summer.  Spring and fall can be grey with lots of rain.  Winter is rainy as well with some snow likely.  Snow usually only lasts a couple of days and it's washed away by rain.  Vancouver is a multicultural city with a good nightlife.  Clubs/restaurants/theatre etc.  The population of greater Vancouver is about 2.5 million.  It is an expensive city in which to live.

  2. Houston is amazing! i live in the suburbs outside of Houston in Sugar Land, Texas.......the community is amazing in SugarLand. its in Fort Bend which is one of the fastest growing countys in the U.S. there are so many places for young people and the University of Houston is in town also. if your into cars and etc, we have Weisthiemer St. where you can see races and fixed up cars. We have the amazing rockets and Astros and the not so amazing texans lol. but everything is great in houston and SugarLand. Also you might want to try Montrose area in Houston. this is where you can find some good cafes. there are alot of young people and the University of Saint Thomas is there also. As you should know, Houston is a BIG CITY! With many fine ladys. there are so many bars and clubs i cant even make a list of the top ten because theres so many. The weather is great too. its nothing like UK. its so grey in the UK. in houston we have amazing weather. from the hot to the cool weather. Hope this helps! have a great day!
