Question:

Moving to the US from Canada - Questions.?

Okay.

I want to move to the US in around four years.

I sincerely thought it would be as simple as crossing the border into the US and continuing my life. I never thought that Canadians had to go through the same processes as everyone else.

Now I know with a regular passport I can visit the US for 6 months before having to return home, but I plan to live there.

I have one question though:

All I want to do is live in an apartment with my friend, while we focus on our writing career. And I want to have a steady job at any regular place on the side. (Electronics Store, whatever.)

What kind of VISA do I need to do this?

Do I need one at all?

Basically, all I want to do is move to LA, and live a casual life alongside my friend. What processes do I have to follow in order to do this?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

  1. You'd best check with a US consul near where you live. Do it in person since doing it by mail takes forever. Our bureaucrats are about as speedy as yours.

I beleive that Canadians, whom we consider our Northern Cousins, can move here and then apply for permanent residence and citizenship.

Make certain that you are employed when you apply.

    It makes a difference.

    Welcome.
