she is 17 months old and still sleeps in my room. the only reason for this is because we have been remodeling her bed room and it is just now finished. she goes to sleep on her own..i dont have to put her to sleep. but she will cry if i leave her in there by herself to go to sleep. does anyone have any tips on how i can get her to start sleeping in her own room?

  1. For the first few nights (or a week), sit by her bed until she falls asleep.  For the next few nights (or a week),  move the chair to the middle of the room, closer to the door.  For the last few days (or a week), sit in the doorway.  She should get used to you not always being there, and her room.  Is there any specific thing that she's scared of, or is it just the new environment?  During the day, do a lot of stuff in there with her.  Instead of playing in the family room or den, play in the new room with her for a little bit.  It doesn't have to be long, just about a half hour a day, just so she gets used to it.  If you have a hall light, leave that on for her, or get her a night light, if she's afraid of the dark.

    Good Luck!

  2. Try Staying With Her Until She's Fast Asleep.

Then, Try Staying With Her, But A Bit Farther Away.

Each Night (Or So), Move A Bit Farther Away.

Pretty Soon, You Shouldn't Have To Stay For Too Long.

Maybe Just Read Her A Book, Or Sing A Song, And Leave.

You May Want To Let Her Sleep In Your Room Until She's Fast Asleep, Then Take Her To Her Own Room.

--Good Luck--   --It Will Be Hard, So You May Have To Just Ditch The Whole 'Sleep In Her Own Room' Thing--
