I'm 16, 5'9 1/2, and I'm 174 pounds. I was previously 169 but I'm thinking about going into the heavywieght division when I start boxing. I've still been training, but I've been adding weight lifting along with my training. What do you think should be my limit/goal weight to get up 2(200,205,etc)?

  1. At 5'9 I would not advise trying to go to heavyweight, the average heavyweight now is around 6'3 230 and that's a small heavyweight. 5'9 is just too short, Tua was about 5'9 but he is Samoan and naturally that big.

At 5'9 you should be cutting weight and going into the welterweight or jr middleweight division.

Listen to the guy below me here and you will just get hurt. Height does matter, It matters big time at the top level.  But maybe if you want to just bottom of the rung heavyweights, you could probably do that

  2. Height doesn't matter in heavyweight, as long as you have the heart and passion, but don't fight word class boxer.
