Question:

Moving up in teaching in Reddich or Bromsgrove?

I am moving to Redditch from London, at the end of summer term and am looking for a great job in a state school within 15 miles of there, including Birmingham. I am either looking for a TLR in a great primary school, or to moving into a Secondary English job. I would like to work in a genuinely improving school in which I could play a useful role. I don't mind a "challenging" school, but not one in which " challenging" means impossible!!

Any advice or ideas would be much appreciated as it is difficult to conduct good research just using the internet and the TES etc, as I do not know the areas very well. Many thanks

  1. Redditch is a low on the ACORN social rating scale and has a middle school system as does Bromsgrove. It is in Worcestershire and education in the county is poorly financed compared with Birmingham.

Schools in the new town area of the town are usually "challenging" in the way you are not keen on!

  2. Loads of LEAs within a 30 minute drive of Redditch, Birmingham also Sandwell, Solihull, Dudley or Shropshire are all ccessible.

Birmingham have more vacancies but the challenges of city schools will be familiar to you.

Solihull and Bromsgrove are usually better social mixtures.

Use the Offsted reports and teacher network sites to findout more about specific schools.

Elgar school in Worcester is one in special measures, you might avoid.
