Question:

Moving up too quickly?

In March I'm thinking of buying a new car.

At the moment I'm driving a Peugeot 205 1.1 B reg. Only 4 gears, manual chalk, no air con, power steering, EBS or Air Bags.

The car I'm thinking of getting in March is a Mini Cooper S Chilli Pack.

My question is, do you think that a Mini Cooper S is too much of a step up from an B reg Peugeot 205 as I only have 9 months driving experience?

  1. a car only goes as fast as your right foot makes it go . as to your dilema about the mini i find the old mini a lot more exciting to drive and as your still on a learning curve you would be stepping up but not to a point where if you had an accident in a new car it would be a lot less painful on the pocket

  2. Well, by next march you'll have 16 months' driving experience, so why not. If you can afford it, go for it. You'll notice a big difference in the way a newer car drives for sure, but it's not like it's going to be hugely different, and it'll be much safer and probably not much less economical.

As to the value of your Peugeot, it all depends on condition, it might only fetch scrap value, say £100 or so, or if it's in good nick, you might find a classic car nut willing to give you £500 for it. I doubt any dealer would offer you a lot for it, you'd be far better off selling privately and haggling for a good discount on your Mini. Good luck.

  3. I take it you don't know much about cars: Any new car is going to feel like a Rolls Royce compared to your 23 year old Peugeot. If you fancy a Mini, then go for it - not my thing at all, but taht's your choice!

Why not spend the next 9 months lookig at & test driving different cars - you may find something you like more.

ps, cars don't have chalks, or indeed chokes, any more - fuel injection doesn't need it.

and I'm not sure about Enti - Lock Brakes either, the Anti Lock type are better.

    Happy shopping!

  4. I would give serious thought about a mini

Noisy,  and unreliable ...  too many gremlins still with electrics

buy another pug but a smaller step up ?

    306 ??

  5. why don't you look in to the smart car that may be a good choice with it getting over 40 miles to a gallon and its not a hybrid
