Question:

Moving within the EU (to Germany)

I'm planning to move to Germany at some point (no set date yet - hopefully New Year - moving in with my boyfriend) but I'm really confused about the legal stuff.

I have the website of the German Embassy in London (http://www.london.diplo.de/Vertretung/london/en/01/Living__and__Working/Living__working__Germany__Unterbereich.html ) but although I'm British & have a British Passport I've been living in Spain for 9 years. I have a Spanish residency card but it expired in February so I don't know if I'm still legally a Spanish citizen or not.

Some of the information on the website refers to if I were living in England & since I'm not I don't know if the same applies.

Is there a website which could give me all the information I need regardless of which country I currently live in? I have no idea what my citizenship status currently is in either Spain or England. I need all information from housing/heath care/working/etc..

Thank you =)

  1. You are British Citizen & not Spanish, unless u have swaped ur British passport with Spanish one.

You dont need to worry about moving, just move to Germany & once you are there, have urself registered with Foreign Police there within 90 days for residency card.

    Simple as that.

  2. Britain is part of the European Union and as a British citizen (ignore the Spanish residency card), you can move, live and work in any country that is also part of the European Union without having to apply for VISAs. Think of the states within the USA - the EU works in a similar way. Means you can move to Germany and live with your boyfriend without any hassle.
