I have a Scotts 20hp 50" riding lawn mower and I was wondering if anyone could tell me where most governors are located and how to remove them or adjust them so the mower goes faster. Thanks

  1. There's a governor on a riding lawnmower?????   SWEET?!?!?  I thought it was limited by the transmission

  2. You might try here.

  3. To do what you are asking would cause your mower to throw a rod and end your quest for speed. However if you are mechanical enough a little experimenting with the pullies on the rear axle and motor you can safely get more speed and not tear up your equipment to bad.just dont do anything you cant undo.Good luck.

  4. Depends on the manufactor of the engine.  They are all connected to the carburetor.  Follow the rod from the carb and you will probably find a lever on the side of the engine.  Some are adjustable.  The problem with adjusting the governor is that you can easily overspeed the engine.  Lawnmower engines just are not made to be run faster than the factory setting of around 3500 rpm.  Something will break and usually soon.  You can go to outdoordistributors.com and look up the make and model of your engine.  It will give you an exploded view and a description of each part.  It will help you locate the governor on your engine.
