  1. You would need a mower with a roller on the back.

Grass has a shiny side and a matte side. With the roller you go up and down your lawn so that one row rolls the grass shiny side up and the next rolls it shiny side down

  2. You need a mower with a striping kit on it which basically consists of rollers that go on the back of the mower and roll the grass down to make the lines more visable.

Even with the striping kit you can't just drive in circles and expect to see lines.  You have to alternate directions so you go down oneway and comeback the other to the immediate side of the line you just made.

  3. The way they mow on a fairway is actually at a diagonal, and then the next time you mow go the opposite of the original and then you will get the cross-hatch pattern.

Not only does this look nice but it is good for the grass to be cut in opposite directions.

  4. Sorry you will never get the stripped affect and you wouldn't want to. Your grass's root system is directly on top of the ground you probally live in florida where St. Augustine is popular. The golf course greens are Bent grass. That is why they have to be put on wilt watch( the guy driving the watering cart) they cut those greens at half an inch high. Under the green not seen is an air condition tunnel which keeps cool air blowing from the ground to keep the roots cool as to protect against drought stress. You would have to resod your lawn with either bermuda ( $120 a pallet) or zoysia ($225 a pallet) to get that desired cut bent grass is way to expensive to do a yard in. * average golf course green is 50k to install. and having a reel mower is ideal for the design you want ( 25k for a low end model)
