Everton manager David Moyes was delighted by the team’s last-gasp victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park last night in the Premier League.
Everton had a very dismal November, losing 1 game and drawing 3. Failing to record a win, David Moyes was delighted to see his men record a dramatic and late win over Tottenham, who had been above Everton on the league table.
The Toffees have finally recorded their first win in over 4 games, and have moved up to 4th spot, level with Tottenham and West Brom on 26 points but ahead on goal difference.
It was the visitors who had taken the lead when Clint Dempsey saw his effort loop over a helpless http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tim-Howard-c35095 in the first half. Both teams failed to score any goals after that, and it looked as if Tottenham were on course to a late victory.
However, deep into stoppage time, a diving header from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Pienaar-c34208 levelled the scores and ensured a nervy finale for the visitors.
Pienaar’s goal had come in the first minute of stoppage time, and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nikica-Jelavic-c27906 shortly added a second after only 88 seconds. The late strike sealed the 3 points for Everton, who clinched a last minute but deserving victory.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Moyes was delighted by his team’s fighting performance and was ecstatic at seeing his side move up to 4th spot. The manager believes his team deserve their position on the league table, and insisted that Everton were due a victory.
Speaking to reporters, the Scot said:
“After the few finishes like that where we have lost points we were due one. If http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 hadn’t won we would be sitting here asking how we hadn’t. We played terrifically well and the attacking play we had was fantastic.”
“We just couldn’t find the final pass or final finish to kill it off at times. Tottenham hot better after 15 minutes of the second half and we had to defend four or five corners and free-kicks. I thought we had actually grown into it again as they scored
the goal.”
“We kept at it and we got it in the end," he added.
