Everton manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Jagielka-c29902 in England’s national squad for the European Championships.
Jagielka, who was earlier put in the standby list, received the call up for the tournament after Barry suffered groin injury in the Three Lions friendly match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Norway-c2974 in Oslo on Saturday. He appeared as a second half substitute during the game and
was ruled out of action after being on the field for less than 30 minutes.
His injury paved the way for the Evertonian player, who was promoted to the 23-men main squad by Hodgson as a replacement for the City midfielder.
Even though Moyes felt that Jagielka should have been included in the squad at the very first place, he nevertheless gave vent to his happiness over his selection.
He told the club’s official website, “I am really pleased for Jags. I said earlier I was disappointed he was only on the stand-by list because I thought he would bring something different.”
The 29-year old has capped 10 international appearances for England in his career so far. He made his first competitive start for the Three Lions against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 in November last year in a friendly
match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011.
The Toffees boss was of the opinion that Jagielka’s sensational show for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 during the second half of the 2011/12 season merited a place in the national team. He also explained that by dissecting and analyzing England’s results over the last couple
of months, one won’t be hard pressed to see a notable difference in the stats when he was present and absent from the team.
He continued, “When I look at some of England's best displays, they have all come when Jags has been involved.”
He went on to reveal that he had spotted the exceptional talent that he possessed at the time when he arrived at Goodison Park and predicted his inclusion in the national team one day.
He remarked, “When I had him and Joleon at Everton I felt I had the next England centre-back partnership on my hands - and I still see them as such.”
