The Toffees thumped AEK Athens 4-1 at home in a match played to commemorate the English International’s eleven-year long career at Goodison Park. The night turned out to be an unforgettable one for the veteran defender, as not only did he see his side get
the better of their opponents by a hefty margin, but he also managed to score his first ever goal for the Toffees during the game.
Prior to the match, the 31-year old had not scored a single goal in his 309 appearances for the Merseyside team.
Anyhow, Moyes went on to credit Hibbert for remaining a long time servant of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 football, and felt that his protracted presence in the side was the perfect role model for all the young players, who are raring to make an impression. Besides that, he
also lauded the player’s exemplary fitness, and unswerving commitment on the field.
The 49-year old told the reporters in an interview, “Tony has been a great lad and being a local boy it means a lot to have those boys in and around your team. They are really important to your structure and framework and show what is required here.”
Hibbert is the only player left in the Toffees squad who has remained by the Scott’s side, ever since he took over the reins of the club in March, 2002.
Talking of his ten-year experience of working alongside the English defender, Moyes let out his admiration for his intelligent tackling approach, and felt that it was a trait which was fast disappearing from the Premier League.
He further added that Hibbert’s testimonial was a deserving acknowledgement of his exceptional career at Goodison Park, and believed that not many players can emulate his achievement of sticking with a same club for so long.
“It is less and less likely we will see testimonials with players staying at clubs for shorter times and agents trying to move players on. He thoroughly deserves it.”
