http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Naismith-c34205, following the striker’s treble against AEK Athens on Wednesday.
The Merseyside club claimed the signature of the Scottish International in July as a free agent. He was on target right from the start, as he netted a hat-trick against the Greek outfit in his first home game for Everton.
However, it was the player’s first appearance since October last year, as a serious knee injury kept him out of action for the last ten months.
Although the 49-year-old Scott was impressed with the striker’s performance against Athens, he advised the fans not to set high expectations from him as yet.
He opined that his prolonged absence meant that he will require time to get back in his stride, and will also need to make adjustments in his game in order to meet the challenging demands of the Premier League.
While talking to reporters, he said: “I don’t want too much heat on him. It’s one thing scoring in a pre-season friendly than scoring in the Premier League… I’m playing it down, he’s been out for nine months so we can’t expect him to be completely ready
right at the start.”
Moyes has so far signed Naismith and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romelu-Lukaku-c31672 at Goodison Park.
Even though the manager was satisfied with the current set of players at his disposal, he let out his desire of strengthening the squad by bringing in more reinforcements, and vowed to keep himself engaged in the transfer activities till the deadline date.
He said, “Our team is pretty much what we finished with last season, so we could just do with keeping them fit and if we can add to it then great.”
The Toffees next pre-season friendly against Malaga will mark the return of the defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Jagielka-c29902 into the team. The English International missed out on his team’s last two games against Athens and Blackpool due to a hamstring injury.
When asked to reveal the player’s current fitness status, the Scott stated that his injury was of mild nature, and he will be fully fit to appear in Saturday’s game.
