  1. There are some basic mp3 players that are $60 or less.  My favorite of them thus far is the Sandisk Sansa Clip.  It is small, with a bright OLED screen, can play audio, audio books, fm radio, and has a voice recorder, plus a built-in belt clip.  The 1GB model is around $35 or $40, and the 2GB model is between $50 and $60, depending on where you look.  It has very nice audio quality as well.  The Creative Zen Stone Plus is a nice option as well.  It has a small screen as well, and plays audio and fm radio.  It also has some useful features if you're gonna use it when you  work out, like a stop watch.  I believe it is only available in a 2GB model for around $50.  Creative also has a new player called the Zen Mozaic which has a color screen and supports audio, video, photo, and fm radio playback.  The 2GB model is $59.99.  Also, there is the Samsung S2 Pebble, which is a basic 1GB screen-less player that does just audio playback.  And it looks like a shiny little pebble.  It's between $40 and $50.

  2. I would check out ebay they have nice cheap mp3 players. PS I bought one of ebay is lasted me 8 years
