I am from india and did my M.A. in economics in 2004 after which i taught for a while in a college there in. But in 2006 i relocated to u.k. due to marriage , and have been at home since then.

Now i have got admission in MSc. International Securities and Investment Banking in the Univ. of Reading.

I don't have any visa problems .

But i am not sure if , even after doing this course, after a 3 years gap and lack of any work experience ......will it help me in landing a job , given the shortcoming attatched with my bio-data.

The course fee is £15000......which is very high indeed......is it worth the risk in my case?

Please advise me on this .

Thanks

  1. This would depend on how you wanted to progress your career.

If you are able to do as Tigon advises then this would be the best option.

Otherwise the decision has to rest with you. No one on YA knows your situation, your age and your motivation.

Getting work experience is an option if you don't want to spend £15 000.00 on an MSc. You may even find an employer who funds your further degrees.

  2. Wouldn't it be better to do a D.Phil or P.hD in economics rather than another taught Masters? A doctorate could be completed in one year if done as part of a research programme and might be able to be combined with a post in a bank or in the civil service. As you say £15,000 is a lot of money to invest unless you are very sure you will secure a position after graduation which will give you a salary commensurate with this outlay.

What kind of a job are you looking for? Academic? Commercial? Industrial?

With your experience and qualifications you could do a Post Graduate Teaching Certificate (PGCE), completable in one year, probably for nothing(!) and become a fully qualified teacher in the UK.
