I am going for 2 weeks to Mt. Hood this summer in July for a ski camp, does anyone know if I would be able to demo different skis and then buy a pair I like? Also, is most of Mt. Hood open to the public during July if I wanted to just free ski before the camp? Thank you!

  1. Actually going next week!! I love that place, man. Often, brand companies will send reps up to camp and let the kids try out their skis and you will be able to get purchase information from them. Also, the ski shops in Government Camp and at Timberline have top of the line new models that you can demo, i'm sure through the camp. They also offer a rental program which, for $120, will let you choose a ski to use for the week. If you need more info, Im sure Mike Annett would be happy to help; feel free to give him a email at mike@mthood.com!

    Hope this Helps!

  2. For the other half of your question, you will have some open terrain to ski during the summer, but it is restricted. This is glacier skiing and multiple lanes are in use by the ski camps. Usually the public will have only 2-4 lanes for their use, the other 16-18 are for the camps. It varies with the year, just how many are open. The camps are great and you should be able to try a few different skiis.
