Question:

Mt. Hood in early May?

I'm itching to ski, and haven't had an opportunity... until now! Too bad it's the end of the season, grrr...

I heard mixed opinions about Mt. Hood in the summer, but am trying to figure out what to expect just a week or two into May, given the current conditions and how things have been this season.

Would it be too messy for a beginner, or just not fun enough? Or with the current 88"+ snowpack, things might be just fine? I'm not looking for anything grand, just a fun weekend ski.

Resort-wise, I had Mt. Hood Meadows and Timberline in mind, but am open to any ideas. "Just do it next season" is not a decision I'll take easily...

  1. Check the operating schedule for each resort. This year the skiing should be good at either for whole period you're asking about. The early morning will be very firm snow,  and very skiable an hour later, starting to get soft in the later part of the day. Wax well and keep waxing every run, the spring snow is abrasive and will strip the wax in a hurry.

  2. I like Peter Pan too!
