I want to plant a New england area Mt laurel tree near a sidewalk. Do the roots grow near the surface of the ground or head down and not out. I live in a condo, and don't want to be charged with destroying a common sidewalk. would the Mt laurel crack the side walk?

  1. Mountain Laurel will put down a lot of roots but they are not as large of roots as those found in many other types of shrubs and trees. I couldn't see where mountain laurel would be capable of damaging a sidewalk.

  2. i agree with sergei. mountain laurel roots are shallow so plant it high and mulch well
