Bolton Wanderers FA Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur at the White Hart Lane was abandoned after Bolton’s midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabrice-Muamba-c13216 collapsed on the field due to a cardiac arrest.
Muamba is reported to be in a critical condition and is under intensive health care at the London Chest Hospital, following the incident which occurred on Saturday, during a FA Cup quarterfinal match. The match was suspended at the closing stages of the
first half with the score levelled at 1-1.
"Fabrice Muamba remains in a critical condition in intensive care in the Heart Attack Centre at The London Chest Hospital,” said a statement made by the club
The player received medical attention immediately after falling to the ground and was resuscitated on the pitch and in the medical van on his way to the hospital.
"Fabrice received prolonged resuscitation at the ground and on route to The London Chest Hospital, where his heart eventually started working. As is normal medical practice, Fabrice remains anaesthetised in intensive care and will be for at least 24 hours.”
The Bolton boss, Owen Coyle, who went to the hospital after the incident, stated that the player was in a critical condition and said that the next 24 hours will be crucial.
The incident, which occurred after the 41st minute of the match, had gripped all the fans and the players with some of his distraught teammates making prayers amid tears in their eyes. The crowd also kept on chanting Muamba’s name as he received
medical attention on the pitch. At 6:20pm, he was taken off the pitch with an oxygen mask on his mouth and was rushed to the London Chest Hospital.
Match referee http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Webb, who stopped the play after the incident, decided to call off the play understanding the seriousness of the occasion and his decision was welcomed by Tottenham’s manager Harry Redknapp.
"Football is the last thing on anyone's mind when an awful situation such as this happens," said Redknapp
Players and fans from all over the world expressed their sorrow and support for Muamba’s family in their troubled time and prayed for his speedy recovery. The chairman of the football association sent thoughts and prayers on the behalf of the FA to the player’s
family.
The 23 year-old Zaire born player, who has made 227 club appearances, came to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Birmingham City in the premier
league before moving to Bolton wanderers in 2008/2009 season.
