  1. There's no real tips I can give as I don't know how the class your going to is conducted e.t.c. but expect to get a serious workout from it. If your not a regular sportsperson then expect to find a few muscles you didn't know you had. It helps if you have natural Hand-to-Eye Co-ordination as you will be hitting pads and once you've had a few lessons and are willing, you'll be doing some light sparring. The main kick used in Muay Thai is called a roundhouse, which is similar to how Footballers volley the ball half the time, bringing a your back leg ( right leg if your right footed in a traditional stance) around generating the power and motion with your hip, striking a front target with the front your shin. I must say that when you first do this, it can hurt a bit as novices aren't used to hitting with your shin but you soon get used to it. Normally when you first join a club, you'll just be taught punches and kicks with most of the punches the same as Boxing just that the stance is slightly different to a Boxer. You'll move on to being taught elbow and knee strikes ( you may learn some at your first lesson ) and also how to grapple your opponent as your allowed to clinch in a Muay Thai fight and throw your opponent but there isn't any groundwork. In Thailand they are permitted to headbutt each other but when I was involved in the Sport, European rules don't allow this and there are normally other restrictions such as no elbows to the head unless both fighters agree before the fight e.t.c.and I don't expect your teacher will teach this aspect of Muay Thai. I hope this is some use to you. Let me know how you get on

  2. Don't worry about it.  Just as you're there to learn, the instructors are there to instruct and teach.  Remember, everyone has to start from nothing.

I doubt you'll use the boots, Muay Thai tends to be performed barefoot (or with ankle supports).  The rope is great for exercise and stamina.  The wraps will most likely be used.

Some shorts that allow maximum leg movement might be a good purchase.

p.s. It's kickboxing more than boxing, but 'Muay' translates to 'boxing'.  So your subject line is 'boxing thai boxing' (or 'boxing free boxing' to be more specific).

  3. what the h**l muay thai boxing??!!!?!! i never heard of that so it must be fake.

  4. That's awesome!

I am starting muay thai / mma this week also =)

I cannot wait, and I have no clue either... hahaha

Good luck, you should keep in touch & let me know how it goes with you!!! Something I have been doing is going to fightergirls.com and reading up on things, it's pretty helpful ;-)

  5. Do plenty of non straining

    leg muscle exercises,

    the legs are ALL !.

  6. Wait till you get there, the instructor will give you all the tips you need. Good luck, hope you enjoy it.

  7. I think you mean to say muay thai KICKboxing.

It'll teach you to strike with fits knees elbows and feet, plus youll learn clinches. Its awesome, and my favorite martial art to practice.

Also, I dont think you'll use the boots, at least I have never seen muay thai kickboxers using anything but wraps on their feet.

Good luck and I hope you like running, as your instructor will probably demand you run ALOT on your own time.
