Question:

Muay Thai or Boxing?

Okay so, I decided to start something because I've always taken an interest in Martial Arts and boxing. I decided to take Hapkido and a mix with either Muay Thai or Boxing. Trouble is both have things I want but I can only choose one. I like how Boxing has fast jabs and the footwork you do. The speed appeals to me. But I also like the power of Muay Thai kicks, elbows, and punches. But I heard they have some slow less effective punches.

I'm lost here and hoping you can help me out :D!

  1. i must say muay thai...

instead of just your fists, muay thai utilizes your fists, elbows, knees, and feet.

    but the choice is yours

and i will leave you with a question for you to think about.

would you rather fight with eight weapons or two?

and just take a look at old boxers and how theyve lost their marbles!!!

and watch a movie with Tony Jaa

    it is called Ong Bak

  2. Muay Thai i like very much, it's so spiritual but i heard they don't teach you blocks or defend for turning side kicks because they chest is facing opponent when they fight. I am practicing Tae Know Do and I do boxing too I have a 120lb bag in my place it's good for me because i feel less and less pain in my knuckles, so in few years i can punch someone and don't feel pain so i can concentrate more and stay in focus

  3. Muay Thai!!! Boxing limits you to just punches to the face and the upper body.

  4. I wouldn't say either is less effective..have a look at some of the videos on youtube and ask a couple of local instructors if you can sit in on one of their classes because your thinking of joining

Then make your mind up :)

  5. There are very different, the stances in particular are much different. The kickboxing stance allows for less movement so that you can kick off your back foot, while boxing has the best footwork of all martial arts because balance and technique are some of the most important things in a boxing match.

Both sports are very dope either way. I personally think for MMA boxing is far more effective because of the stance and footwork. But at the same time the leg kicks and knees and elbows are sweet too.

Really it just depends on your own preference. I love boxing myself, for the handspeed and footwork, and i think speed is just a great thing to look at especially fast combinations.

  6. your only slow if you train to be slow. boxing is a martial art like the other ones you names. you need to decide what you want out of learning to fight. mauy thai is a great form of kick boxing and you will learn a lot about how to use all of your limbs in a fight. boxing is great also and in boxing you will learn how to punch very well.
