I have practice in kickboxing and want to be alot better. I found a guy who lived and trained in Thailand for 10 years who is going to train me personaly. Do you think I would be a lot better that way or taking his class which has 12 people in it?

  1. Personal training would improve your technique fast.

Taking the class would help overall, specially if alot of sparring is involved.

    good luck!

  2. Depending on the teacher. But most likely it would be better to be taught in groups of 3 then a school of 50

  3. Start off with the personal training - if the guy is old school Thai, he'll make you cry, gag, bleed and, hate him the first month.  But you'll be in shape and your skills will improve.  Check out his facility an see if it looks like a place you'd be comfortable fighting in. (I trained with a boxer in a garage for a couple years and it was the best training I ever had).  All you really need is Thai pads and a teacher - but if you want more bells and whistles you may want to go to a school or do something on your own to enhance your training, like put up a banana bag, double end bag, etc. for home training.

  4. use your personal time as 'refining', and your public time as 'applying'.

  5. you should know if he's really from pratet-thai/thailand. if he is then go for it.

  6. You are lucky to get this opportunity to get some personal tuition. This will greatly benefit your technique.

    Personally, I would want both:

    - a class setting is a must for sparring with a range of opponents.

    - also, you will most likely be spurred on by the rest of the class (would it be only to keep up) during the fitness elements.

    - one on one tuition is a great way to refine your technique, as your instructor will simply be able to devote more time to correcting you

    - it is also more personal, and a good chance to forge a establish a solid student/instructor relationship... you will be able to learn more about the art and its background generally and feel more free to ask questions without disrupting the flow of the class.

Take advantage of this, you are in a lucky position

  7. personal no doubt. he can c if ur stance is correct and the physics of ur kicks and knees. ur a lucky kid if u found some1 that authentic.
