Mubarak Al Besher will represent UAE at the FINA Swimming World Cup in Dubai – Swimming News
Mubarak Al Besher of UAE will represent his country at the first leg of the Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) scheduled 2011 Swimming World Cup.
Al Besher will symbolise UAE in the event of 50m, 100m and 200m breast-stroke category at the first stop of the World Cup series from October 7-8, in Dubai. With the growing intensity in swimming events due to the upcoming Olympic Games, Al Besher will be
competing against the best of swimming giants.
The two-day event will take place at the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex. Local police officer, Al Besher is very excited for the competition and he thinks he swims faster in this pool.
Al Besher said, “It is a fantastic facility and I definitely think I swim better and faster in this pool. I would love the people of Dubai to come and see their national team swim. I’m really looking forward to swimming with all those great international
swimmers at the World Cup and my aim is to reach the final.”
In 2010, Al Besher proved his dominance in UAE by improving several national records. The breast-stroke swimmer has already represented UAE in the 4*100m medley relay at the 10th FINA World Short Course Championships in Dubai, last year. In addition,
he also took part in the 50m breast-stroke event at the 2011 Shanghai World Championships.
The FINA/ARENA World Cup constitutes of seven stops, where the last three stops of the competition are scheduled to take place in Singapore, Beijing and Tokyo.
Furthermore, Australian comeback king, Ian Thorpe has announced his participation at the last three stops of this series, as the nine-month ban imposed on him by FINA will expire in October. Thorpe is preparing very hard and is making full use of his available
time, as he intends to qualify in the Australian team for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The World Cup is of huge importance, as the rankings of international swimmers will depict the standings of each swimming nation at the 2012 London Olympics.
