Much awaited return of WR Austin Collie from concussion can boost Indianapolis Colts – NFL News
A phase of uncertainty around Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Austin Collie’s immediate future prospects lingers on as third consecutive concussion has taken a toll on the smooth progression of his professional league career.
The receiver is yet to play a game this season due to an unpredictable recovery process and while coach Chuck Pagano has refused giving consideration to change his placement he still remains prone to reoccurring of the injury.
Given that concussions sometimes are not recovered to hundred percent, the risks of reoccurring and other setbacks are greater than in case of any other injury.
This is probably the reason that the Colts do not want to rush him back and while the player himself is upbeat about his fitness level, he too realises the risks associated with premature return to action.
The situation for Collie is rather worse because he has suffered the head injury for third time since November 2010 when he was hit for the first time, and he recently spoke about his sense of worry about it. His latest injury occurred on August 19 and the
player has since then failed to hit the field.
There was some hope last week he might return to the squad for the past weekend game but it did not happen, and there is still a lingering question if he is going to be hundred percent for the next game.
Apparently, the player and team boasted a speedy recovery from the latest concussion but in case of head injuries, a player is unable to assess his position as thoroughly as a specialist can do.
He is one of many examples of concussions having an intense impact on a player. The sufferings in the post-retirement life are even worse. Even though the National Football League (NFL) has tightened the noose around head hits, concussions are occurring
almost at the same rate as it had prevailed before the measures.
Head hits also came on the agenda of discussion in the league meeting during the offseason, but in spite of the rumours of banning such hits, it is yet to happen.
