Mucho Macho Man aiming for his maiden Grade One success in Woodward Stakes at Saratoga
Kathy Ritvo’s superstar runner, Mucho Macho Man, has recorded three Grade 2 triumphs so far, and is hunting for his maiden success at the highest level of the sport this weekend. With an aim to do something special, the 4-year-old will step out at Saratoga,
where he is due to show his magic in the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes.
Mucho Macho Man has shown plenty of good work early in the season. The son of Macho Uno wrapped up his 2011 campaign after suffering a terrible defeat at Belmont Park. After staying out of action for more than half a year, the dashing colt returned to action
in January this year.
After dominating the Florida Sunshine Millions Classic Stakes, he stepped up to the graded level in March. The spectators saw him showing plenty of class in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Handicap, which he won by a couple of lengths.
He could not display an equally fine show at Churchill Downs, but was not disgraced at all. Under R. A. Dominguez, the Reeves Thoroughbred Racing-owned was among top-3 in the Alysheba Stakes.
Bred by John D. Rio & Carole A. Rio, the bay colt put his journey back on the winning ways at Belmont Park, where he ensured a comfortable 2½-length win in the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap.
Mucho Macho Man does not have an impressive track record in Grade One events, but the form he showed early in the season makes him a solid option in today’s big meeting. All he needs is to deliver one hundred percent in order to open his account in this
class.
To Honor And Serve is yet to show what he did on his seasonal debut. After winning a Grade 3 meeting at Belmont Park, the 4-year-old could not perpetuate his good work, and faced a couple of unlucky defeats recently. Stay Thirsty was also a bit rusty on
his seasonal return at Belmont Park in July.
With most of his rivals not enjoying purple patch, it is an ideal chance for Mucho Macho Man to prove his mettle at this level. We wish the best of luck to all the horses.
