Mucho Macho Man expected to upset Nates Mineshaft in the Alysheba Stakes at Churchill Downs on 4th May
It might just be one of the most competitive line-up for the Grade 2, $300,000 Alysheba Stakes with two contestants looking forward to extend their winning streaks, victory for either will stretch the win count beyond three. The race will be held at Churchill
Downs over 1 1/16 miles on Friday, 4th May.
The two most celebrated entries for the race are Mucho Macho Man and Nates Mineshaft. Trying to eliminate all the possible obstacles that could make their way between Mucho Macho Man and his fourth win in line, the trainer, Katherine Ritvo resorted to working
the four-year-old colt over three furlongs on 28th April at Churchill Downs for the mile stone race that is just round the corner.
Macho Uno’s four-year-old colt out of mare, Ponche De Leona, rested the track distance in :36 1/5 seconds.
The most significant achievement of the colt owned by Dream Team One Racing Stable and Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, besides striking a hat trick through the last three starts was the decent third finishing in the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby on 7th May
at Churchill Downs over 1 ¼ miles.
Riding with Rajiv Maragh, the four-year-old settled third behind the winner Animal Kingdom and the runner up, Nehro.
The very first leg of the hat trick got claimed during the previous season while the remaining two were added during the current season. Having raced just twice in 2012 renders Mucho Macho Man unbeatable till yet and thus he falls under great scrutiny for
keeping the performance level intact.
He won an allowance on 9th November 2011 at Aqueduct over a mile with Ramon Dominguez riding. Gallant Fields settled in as the runner up in the race that took the winner a minute and :34.72 seconds to complete the trip.
Keeping the 2012 entry as impressive as the exit from the previous season, Mucho Macho Man won the seasonal debut that was in the form of the Sunshine Millions Classic on 28th January.
He won the 1 1/8 miles race at Gulfstream Park in a minute and :47.91 seconds, leading by length and a half.
As if winning had become more of a norm, he excelled in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Handicap on 10th March at Gulfstream Park over a mile by dominating the field wire to wire. Tackleberry and Jackson Bend followed right in behind the winner once
he took a minute and :35.50 seconds to win the race.
Mucho Macho Man will confront nine other contestants and the most threatening among them is Nates Mineshaft. Mineshaft’s five-year-old horse out of mare, Angels Tearlet, has enjoyed unprecedented success since the last four races. His desire to extend the
count would be overwhelming and thus can over shadow the chances for Mucho Macho Man.
