Mucho Macho Man holds an entry both in the Whitney Handicap and the Woodward Stakes this fall
Looks like, Mucho Macho Man, cannot get enough of winning this season, and now he is going after another race after claiming a massive victory in the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap on 7th July, 2012.
The Katherine Ritvo trained runner rode in the capable hands of rider Mike Smith in the 1 1/8 mile race at Belmont Park, where he defeated the Claude R. McGaughey III trained, Hymn Book, by a margin of 2 ½ lengths, while Trickmeister finished third.
The son of Macho Uno, foaled by mare Ponche De Leona, has made his way back to his home-base at Saratoga, and now holds an entry in the Grade 1 Whitney Handicap at Saratoga on 4th August, 2012, which covers a distance of 1 1/8
miles.
Here he might run into the Bill Mott trained, To Honor And Serve, and have a rematch with the fourth place finisher in the Suburban Handicap, and might even face Trickmeister.
Satisfied with this performance, the trainer told the media:
“He had a really good day.” Ritvo further stated: “He acted good in the paddock, he was really good in the gate, he broke real well, and finished up great.”
The four-year-old also holds an entry in the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes at the same track over the 1 1/8 miles on 1st September, 2012. According to the trainer, the runner has a higher chance of competing in this race.
The trainer wants to give the older division runner some time off, considering he was working really hard this entire season. The trainer stated that the colt trains for two miles every day and does not miss a single practice session.
She stated:
“He’s a big horse, and we allow him to recover on his own and he seems to do real good that way,” Ritvo told the media on 8th July, 2012. “He only worked three times up to his last race, but he never missed a day of training.”
This season the Florida bred colt claimed the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Handicap, which covered a distance of a mile, and the Sunshine Millions Classic which ran over 1 1/8 miles both at Gulfstream Park, and it seems that he has done enough for now.
