Mucho Macho Man might face off against To Honor And Serve in the Whitney Handicap at Saratoga
The Florida bred, Mucho Macho Man, has always been an interesting subject but his appeal increased even more after he crushed the competition in the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap at Belmont Park on 7th July, 2012.
The fascinating thing about this victory was not only did he excel on the 1 1/8 mile, distance and recorded the victory, but he did it on the same weekend, when his grand-sire, Holy Bull was retired from his stud duty.
The victory of Mucho Macho Man was a tribute to the older runner, who enjoyed a brilliant career with some truly memorable moments.
In the Suburban Handicap, Mucho Macho Man was paired with jockey Mike Smith and, together the duo completed the race in 1 minute and 46.00 seconds.
Now coming to form and getting more mature, he has more victories lined up for him.
Trained by Katherine Ritvo for owners Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, the runner got his act together this season when he claimed the Sunshine Millions Classic Stakes at Gulfstream Park in January, 2012, over the 1 1/8 miles.
The four-year-old colt carried the same fervour and composure into the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Handicap, where he finished ahead of Tackleberry.
In 2010, the colt spent his time chasing the Bill Mott trained To Honor And Serve, but couldn't defeat him. The two runners faced off in the Grade 2 Nashua Stakes at Aqueduct, where he finished as a runner-up to the Live Oak Plantation owned runner.
The rivalry continued into the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes at the same track and, it had the same result with To Honor And Serve on top and Mucho Macho Man right on his tail.
The son of Macho Uno, foaled by mare Ponche De Leona, will compete at Saratoga in the Grade 1 Whitney Handicap on 4th August, 2012, where he will take on 1 1/8 miles on a dirt surface. There is a big chance that he will excel
on this track based on its familiarity.
The older division runner will have yet another opportunity to compete against To Honor And Serve and will try to maintain the hierarchy the way it is now.
