Mucho Macho Man nearing a return to the races, when he worked six furlongs at Belmont Park
Reeves Thoroughbred Racing’s 3-year-old colt Mucho Macho Man, has been sidelined for almost 5 months and his last race was the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes where he finished 7th, is now back on the track and training.
The Katherine Ritvo trained Mucho Macho Man was just one of three to participate in all three Triple Crown races, starting from Kentucky Derby where he finished third behind the winner Animal Kingdom and Nehro on 7 May, 2011, over at Churchill Downs dirt
track at about 1 ¼ miles.
The 3-year-old colt went about his business in the next Triple Crown race, the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico’s dirt course at about 1 3/16 miles, where he finished a distance sixth.
Shackleford won the Preakness Stakes, Animal Kingdom second and Astrology finished third, the winning time of the race was 1 minute and 56.47 seconds.
The third and final leg of the Triple Crown was the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes, where unfortunately Mucho Macho Man was a victim of the series of bumps started while breaking from the gates.
Due to the early hiccup, the colt couldn’t come back into the race and finished way behind the  surprise winner Ruler on Ice, in seventh place at Belmont Park over at 1 ½ miles on 11 June, 2011, and that was the last race Mucho Macho participated in.
The son of Macho Uno, out of Ponche De Leona by Ponche, Mucho Macho Man is nearing a return to the races, and for a comeback race Mucho Macho Man worked six furlongs 1 minute and 11.40 seconds at Belmont Park training track.
Right out of the starting gate, Mucho Macho Man covered the opening quarter mile in 22.87 seconds, going the half mile in 45.82 seconds and just after the half mile marker he covered the distance in 57.47 seconds by the New York Racing Association clockers.
His work was timed from the 5 1/2-furlong pole to a half-furlong past the wire, Kathy Ritvo was satisfied with her runner’s run after such a long layoff.
He worked good, he looked great, he finished well,” trainer Kathy Ritvo said. “He hadn’t been to the gate for a long time, so we thought we’d bring him there.”
