Mucho Macho Man returned to the races with a win at the Big A in an optional claiming allowance
In cruise control throughout the race, Mucho Macho Man in the most impressive of way announced his come back to the races with a win in a $55,000 optional claiming allowance race at Aqueduct race course on 9 November, 2011.
Mucho Macho Man won the race with a massive margin of 5 ¾ lengths under jockey Ramon Dominguez. Trainer Kathy Ritvo hasn’t raced Mucho Macho Man since the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes earlier this year, and he is one of the three horses who participated in all the three jewels of the Triple Crown.
The son of Macho Uno, out of Ponche De Leona by Ponche, Mucho Macho Man had a dismal Triple Crown, with a finish on the money in the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, the 3-year-old colt finished 6th in the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico and a seventh place finish in the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park on 11 June this year.
After a 5 months layoff, Mucho Macho Man returning to the races with a stylish victory sent a message out to top company that he is back and ready to join them.
Sent off as the narrow 7 to 5 second choice favourite, Mucho Macho Man experienced a gate to wire win over 5 other runners under jockey Ramon Dominguez.
He jumped out of the gate and didn’t let anyone touch him for the opening quarter mile which he covered in 23.63 seconds, as the other 7 to 5 favourite Southern Ridge kept prompting the leader on the outside.
Mucho Macho Man then covered the half of the distance in 46.32 seconds and the whole six furlongs in 1 minute and 9.86 seconds. Mucho Macho Man was 5 lengths away from the lot at the bend as he covered the final quarter in 24.86 seconds.
His successful return in the one mile test was covered in 1 minute and 34.72 seconds after he broke on top from post number 5.
Mucho Macho Man went on to improve his career winnings to 3 out of 12 starts, with 3 second place finishes and also 3 third place finishes with the career earnings of $643,643 so far.
