Mucho Macho Man teamed with rider Mike Smith for the Suburban Handicap at Belmont Park
With Ramon Dominguez already aboard Trickmesiter, Mucho Macho Man will ride under jockey Mike Smith in Grade 2, $350,000 Suburban Handicap at Belmont Park, which is due to take place on 7th July, 2012.
Under Mike Smith, the four-year-old colt will break from post position 7 with the hope of securing the victory over the course of 1 1/8 miles.
Ramon Dominguez has guided, Mucho Macho Man, to his last three victories, but it was a “business decision” to take charge of Trickmeister, since he occasionally works for trainer, Richard Dutrow.
Trainer Kathy Ritvo was pleased with the decision of Mike Smith riding on the back of her charge, as she told the press that:
“We got the best rider that would fit him,” the trainer further added: “We think he’s a great rider. I think he’ll give the horse a lot of confidence, and the horse will give him a lot of confidence.”
The trainer truly believes that the son of Macho Uno, out of mare Ponche De Leona, can down this race.
“He belongs in the race, I think he’s going to run a great race.”
The handler’s confidence comes from the colt’s performance in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Handicap where Dominguez guided him to victory over. Tackleberry.
The Reeves Thoroughbred Racing owned runner briskly covered the 1 mile track in 1 minute and 35.50 seconds.
The trainer has confidence in the jockey, since he has guided winners in the Suburban Handicap earlier in his career. He guided, Devil His Due, to victory in 1994, and Wekiva Springs in 1996.
This year the Suburban Handicap has drawn a field of eight runners including some of the best runners like To Honor And Serve, Stay Thirsty and Endorsement.
The Bill Mott trained, To Honor And Serve, might be Mucho Macho Man’s biggest threat on the track, and he will be paired with rider, Jose Lezcano.
The four-year-old recently notched a brilliant victory in the Grade 3 Westchester Stakes, where he completed the 1 mile course in 1 minute and 34.84 seconds, and defeated the Richard Dutrow trained, Boys At Tosconova.
