Mucho Macho Man to start off his 5-year-old campaign in the Sunshine Millions Classic
The soon-to-be 5-year-old son of Macho Uno, Mucho Macho Man, will start his 2013 season in defense of his title in the Sunshine Millions Classic to be run over a distance of 1 1/8 miles on 19 January, 2013, and there he might meet some of the top handicappers,
with the likes of Ron the Greek, and the David Fawkes trained duo Duke of Mischief and Cash Rules.
Trainer Kathy Ritvo with Reeves Thoroughbred Racing's stable manager Finn Green made the decision to start Mucho Macho Man in the 1 1/8 mile test, which also feels a good spot for the 4-year-old colt.
Reeves Thoroughbred Racing’s Mucho Macho Man has had a pretty impressive 2012, as he won thrice out of six starts, and overall didn’t finish worse than third the whole season.
He started his 2012 campaign also with a run in the Sunshine Millions Classic, and came out of the race as a victor, defeating Ron the Greek in second.
He rolled to another victory in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Handicap over a mile, but at Churchill Downs he finished third in the Grade 2 Alysheba Stakes. He bounced back to be victorious in the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap at Belmont Park, where he defeated
Hymn Book in second and Trickmeister in third going over a distance of 1 1/8 miles.
Out of Ponche mare Ponche De Leona, Mucho Macho Man is coming off two second place finishes, starting from the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes at Saratoga Race Course to winner To Honor and Serve, and then in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic to winner Fort Larned.
"On Saturday morning, he'll go three-eighths of a mile in preparation for the Sunshine Millions here on the 19th of January," Green said. "It's a great race to go back into after the Breeders' Cup Classic, a fantastic race for him to get back."
With Mucho Macho Man’s second place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, he picked up $900,000 which shot up his bankroll to a whopping $2.3 million in purses.
Mucho Macho Man also finished a strong third place finish in the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby in the 2011 edition at Churchill Downs.
