Mucking Out Problem!!!?

ive recently started work on a new yard, and when mucking out, i am sometimes asked to leave the beds up or down. Ive never worked on a yard where these terms are used before and i don't know what they mean!!! Can anyone help me? (the beds are rubber matting with either straw or shavings on top.)

Leaving the bed up is when you clear all the middle and pile the bedding in banks around the sides ( so it can easily be flipped down again when needed) you then sweep the floor and leave it bare.

Leaving the bed down is when you muck it out and reset the bed ready for the horse again.

I think leaving the bed up meaning the bedding (shavings or straw) is along the sides of the stall. so that the stall floor is expose. Beds down is that the bedding is spread out along the stall floor, Ready for the horse to be put in the stall.

UP-when shavings/straw are pushed to the sides and not in the middle.

Down-when bedding is ready for horse to come in, and is spread out.

The best thing to do is to ask who is telling you to do this. Im not really sure. I work at a barn. Im 18. And no one uses that terminology.

I HAVE STABLES AND THAT'S THE WAY I OPERATE THE STABLE BEDDING STUFF, I ALSO HAVE THE SAYING KEEP WHICH MEANS  JUST PUSHED UP AT THE SIDES BUT WITH ENOUGH BEDDING FOR THE HORSE TO LIE DOWN COMFOTABLY.

UP IS WHEN THE HORSES SHAVINGS ARE PILED UP ONTO THE SIDE WALLS WITH JUST THE RUBBER MATTING IN THE MIDDLE.

DOWN IS WHEN THE BEDDING IS JUST LIKE NORMAL, AND ALL OVER THE STABLE FLOOR SO THE HORSE CAN JUST COME IN AT NIGHT AND SLEEP.

I'M PRETTY SURE THATS WHAT THEY WILL MEAN BUT I'D DOUBLE CHECK, THEY WON'T TELL YOU YOUR STUPID, OR WATCH OTHER WORKERS AND SEE WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

leaving the beds up is when you muck out and chuck all the clean bedding up around the edges of the stable (back 3 walls where the bed goes) to form banks etc. The floor can then be swept clean and a bucket of water can be poured and swept out of the door. This would then have time to dry out. Leaving the bed down means that you clean out the stable as before, and then pull the banks down again, relaying the bed. The rubber matting should be kept washed off, by putting water down and then sweeping the water out of the door, which will dilute the urine that gets in under the matting. hope this helps
