Question:

Mucus and floaters in my eyes?

I have both floaters and mucus in my eyes. I had my eyes checked already, and my optometrist said that it's normal but he wanted me to see him immediately if there's a sudden increase. The thing is I have no idea which one are the circles of the mucus and which one are the real floaters. Can someone describe? I suppose the transparent ones are the mucus circles and the black ones are the floaters?Which one is which?

  1. I'm not exactly sure what he meant by mucous in your eye, mucous is part of the tear film on the outside of your cornea. Floaters are just the thick gelatinous material in the back of your eye known as Vitreous moving about. The "black" one might just be the small blind spot some people notice. But yes, absolutely have it checked if you notice a marked difference in either.

  2. Floaters are inside your eye and can be clear or black.  They can be stringy or small circles or shapes.  They actually float around in your eye and move when you move your eye.  If you notice a whole bunch at once, it can be a sign of a retinal detachment, which is an emergency.  Mucous is on the outside of your eye and is clear.
