How long did it take you to lose your mucus plug? I lost a chunk of mine last night but have not noticed anymore since. I'm 1cm dilated and 15-20% effaced.

  1. It can be different with each pregnancy.  With my first, Iost it all in one clump, and with my second, I lost it over the course of a day.

  2. with my first son i lost it all at the same time when i was 7 1/2 months. im pregnant with my second and lost part of it at 34 weeks and the rest came out alittle at a time. its different for everyone and every pregnancy.

  3. i started losing mine like 2 weeks ago and still noticing i'm losing it....like itll stop..then a few days later i'll lose some again

  4. You probably lost your entire mucus plug.  It's not that big.

  5. With me, I lost my mucus plug (in my first pregnancy) than my water broke, so that there told me to go to the ER. I'm not sure, but I think you might go into labor soon. Congratulations early! Take care!

  6. This is a complicated thing.  The mucous plug IS large.  It is about a handful of mucous and it is bloody.  If you lost the entire plug, that is what it would look like.

Now, you probably lost part of the mucous, which indicates that your cervix is doing its thing!!!  Its starting to dilate and soften!  You may lose more and more as this happens.  Going for a long walk can shake some more out.  Losing this bits of the plug is not harmful at all, as the mucous can regenerate itself if you don't go into labor right away.

If you are looking for mucous as a labor indicator, its really kind of complicated.  If its just a tiny bit of mucous, not really a reliable indicator.  If you lose bloody or brown mucous, you are likely to deliver soon, bc that means that there is major cervical action going on.  Either way, its not 100% guarantee that you will or will not go into labor in the next few days.

If this is your first baby, count on going a little past your due date.  If you are less than 3cm dilated, and less than 50% effaced, I would refuse or argue against induction (as long as there are no guaranteed complications to baby and you).  If your cervix isn't ready for induction and you are induced, it is very possible that the induction will fail and it will lead to a Cesarean.  Its very common these days.

  7. I didnt loose mine until I went into hard labor with my frist 3.

I am bing induced on Sept 5th with #4 and havent lost it at all yet either.   I am 3 cm dialated and 80% effaced!
