Mudassar Nazar plays down Pakistan's World Cup chances
Former Pakistan cricketer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 winning the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup are slim, as the selected squad is not “strong enough” to lift the title.
The former player said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) lacked planning and there was no consistency in the team for the last 3-4 years. He further added that all the other teams are better prepared than Pakistan.
He slammed the delay by the PCB in announcing the captain for the mega event. All the other teams have named their skippers for the World Cup except Pakistan. The PCB is expected to announce the skipper for the mega event on 4th February (tomorrow).
Mudassar tipped Shahid Afridi as an ideal choice to lead Pakistan in the World Cup. He said, “I would have gone with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482. He has been the captain for the past year or so. Now, the tournament is around the corner for which he has been preparing
for a while and all of a sudden they're not sure whose going to be the captain.”
The PCB was indecisive about naming the captain for the mega event and this led to a lot of criticism. Afridi didn’t have the best of times as the captain of the team and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 looked a likely candidate to replace him.
Many former players and experts said that this would divide the team and Pakistan would have no chance of winning the World Cup for the second time since 1992.
Although the team gelled well in New Zealand and won the One Day International (ODI) series 3-1, Mudassar said that New Zealand was one of the weakest teams in ODI cricket and a win against them would not do Pakistan’s confidence any good.
He believed, “The only thing is that the world cup is in the subcontinent which allows Pakistani batting a better chance at not getting exposed. Once they put up the total, they still have some semi decent bowlers to help then defend it.”
Pakistan will be in Group-A of the World Cup along with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758; the other tough opponents in the group.
